Today I want to encourage to think about what you are thinking about because – your thoughts matter.
The way God my attention is in a slightly unusual way– a grilled cheese sandwich.
Before I tell my story, I want to ask you to answer one simple question….
Have you said anything negative to yourself this week?
I’ll give you a moment to ponder that…
Did you tell yourself how great you looked in the mirror or did you tell yourself the things you saw that looked so very wrong?
When you made a mistake did you tell yourself it was okay or did words like stupid me or can’t I get anything right pop up instead?
Had your thoughts been taken over with a thought like “I wish I could be a better ___________________” Mom, wife, keeper of the home, employee……you fill in your blank.
Years ago I would have said no that that questions, “Have you said anything negative to yourself this week?’ without giving it a second thought. Then one day God brought it to my attention that I was being quite the “mean girl” to myself after all. The short story is that I burned a grilled cheese sandwich and then caught my inner chatter.
”Stupid me–can’t I get anything right!”
Ouch! Perhaps I wasn’t as confident as I thought. Perhaps that is why I struggle with “I’m too scared to take action” or dread big events where there are a lot of people I don’t know.
In Hebrews 10:35-36 it says,
So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Throwing away my confidence is exactly what I was doing by constantly letting my ugly words to myself take over.
I’m grateful today that I burned that little insignificant sandwich as God used it to show me that my thoughts matter but also reveal to me how I am not alone.
Your thoughts matter…
